Plot Summary: The X-Men, mutant heroes sworn to defend a world that hates and fears them, are back. However mutants are on the verge of X-tinction when Worthington Industries using using the DNA of a powerful mutant boy, discovers a drug to take away any super powers and make any mutant a 'normal' human.
This scientific breakthrough complicates and intensifies the physical and ideological battle between Professor X's integration-friendly X-Men and the human-hating muties let by Magneto.
Magneto builds a mutant army and recruits The Jaggernaut to find the mutant boy and kill him.
Jean Grey resurrects with the personality of the powerful Dark Phoenix and seemingly allies herself to the evil forces of Magneto, making them almost invincible.
The X-Men minus Professor Xavier and Cyclops (both having fallen to Dark Phoenix) along with the the aid of an old X-Man The Beast, must face evolution itself in the form of their former teammate, Jean Grey. Possessed with the cosmic power of the Dark Phoenix she has become a danger to herself, her mutant comrades, and the entire planet.
The battle lines are drawn and a final confrontation takes place with the X-Men and government forces on one side and The Mutant Brotherhood with Dark Phoenix on the other. It's a battle that the X-Men cannot afford to loose and the fate of the entire world hangs in the balance
